Green Garden Mural

With plant forms observed in the surrounding neighborhood, this mural is right at home in its East Austin livingroom.
The wall’s position within the home’s open-concept floor plan informed the mural’s design. It’s located directly inside the front door, inviting guests into the home with a color palette that eases the transition from outside to in. This transition continues into the next room through warm, yellow tones drawn from the adjacent kitchen and dining area.
In addition to the mural’s physical location, the day-to-day use of the room provided important context. The space is used as many living rooms are, for lounging and tv-watching. Therefore, the overall effect of the artwork is intentionally subdued so as not to demand too much visual attention.
What results is a site-specific art piece in quiet conversation with its surroundings.
