IBM Federal Field Explorer

Digital Brand Activation, UX/UI Design, Map Illustration, Animation Storyboards • 2020
IBM Federal needed a brand activation to spark discussions during their upcoming tradeshow season. Through an interactive tabletop map, users step into the shoes of those directly impacted by military modernization. This human-centered, story-telling approach communicates the depth and breadth of IBM solutions in a flexible and engaging format.

Dynamic stories, in context
Each map location contains related stories and interactive content. For example, on the battlefield, the Distribution Center highlights one product’s predictive maintenance capabilities. On the homefront, the Suburban Neighborhood covers an IBM product that can help veterans resettle into civilian life.

Tactile interaction
Users slide 3D-printed game pieces around the map to unlock marketing content.

Two maps, endless possibilities
The two maps showcase how products function in two different settings: on the homefront and on the battlefield. The layouts are flexible to add more locations and stories as the content is developed.

IBM in Action
Dynamiclly-animated content widgets tell stories on clickable slides. Each image has a unique transition into the next when advancing slides. Detailed storyboards explained how the icon illustrations were animated.

Flexible interface design
With the transition to virtual events during the pandemic, desktop and mobile versions are in the works.
