Austin Black History Social Ride Digital Flyer
Digital • 2020When Talib Abdullahi got the idea to host a bike tour exploring the city of Austin’s Black history, he thought a handful of his friends would show up. The initiative, originally shared in Talib’s Instagram story, was already generating immense interest when the official poster came out. The design features a bike tire radiating from Sweethome Baptist Church, a tour stop. The tall lettering, vibrant colors, and simple information delivery were meant to grab attention in Instagram stories, and that it did. The image was shared and reshared 1,000+ times to a growing audience. All the excitement turned into a majorly successful event that drew 400+ bikers, volunteers, and sponsors. NPR covered the event in an article, and a self-guided version of the tour is available here.
Question Answers Poster Series
11”x17” • 2015This set of posters was designed by rolling dice to combine a library of 11 images with a list of 9 rules – a sort of analog approach to generative design. These rules applied actions to the images (for example, “cut it up” or “turn it upside down”) thereby guiding the creative process of each poster.
